Tips To Stay Hydrated During The Summer

Summer in Australia is a good six months away. However, in most parts of the world including Europe and the United States, the hot season has arrived. Currently, Australia is experiencing the winter wave. While some people enjoy the cold breeze, there are many who don’t rejoice the coming of winter. To escape the freezing cold, the aforementioned people are heading to countries currently experiencing the summer heat. While many of these places have bearable temperatures, there are some countries where the temperature can go as high as 50° C . In such places, staying hydrated is extremely important. So, how can you stay hydrated in the hot countries? Let’s take a look.

First of all and this goes without saying, you need to drink lots of water. This may sound like kindergarten stuff to you but knowing this is important: our body is made up of 70% water and we lose this water in our breath, in urine and in sweat. The only way to recover the water we’ve lost is taking in fluids such as water. For this reason, you must keep a drink bottle with you at all times during the summer. If carrying a drink bottle with you to certain places makes you conscious then you can minimize your inhibitions by buying and carrying branded drink bottles.

Returning to the topic at hand, you should drink 6 to 8 glasses of water each day during the summer. However, this may vary based on your physicality and activity levels. As mentioned earlier, we lose the water in our body through our urine, breath and sweat. On average, a person loses about two to three quarts, equalling 8 to 10 glasses of water. You will start to get dehydrated if you don’t recover the water you’ve lost. The following will happen at the different levels of dehydration:

  • At 1-2%, you will start to feel thirsty
  • At 5%, you will become hot and tired and your endurance will decrease
  • At 10%, you will experience blurred vision and delirium
  • At 12-20%, you’ll die or become unconscious

Considering what’s just been said, staying hydrated, especially during the summer, is extremely important. As mentioned earlier, drinking lots of water is the best to stay hydrated. However, other foods and drinks can also help you to recover the water you’ve lost. A scientifically proven way of keeping your body hydrated is drinking moderate amounts of coffee. However, caffeinated drinks should not be your preferred way to get hydrated. Instead, you should use them for hydration purposes only when water is absent.

Staying hydrated is critical for your health. By staying hydrated at all times, you will keep your body fit and avoid a number of health problems including heart disease and diabetes. By following the aforementioned tips and carrying a drink bottle with you at all times, you will ensure that you stay hydrated and fit.
