Career and Job Advice: Appreciating Bosses and Employees

Sharing is caring!

Careers aren’t just about how well you navigate your professional material. They are also about how well you interact with your bosses, co-workers, and employees. You can do a fantastic job at whatever it is you are professionally required to, but if you can’t figure out how to get along with everyone, that can make your career miserable, and negatively affect everyone around you.

So think about appreciation before you go into your office or workplace next time. How should you appreciate your boss? If you’re in charge, what can you do to show employees that you care? How healthy is your workplace so that people can interact accordingly? And do you have to do any special navigation when it comes to interpersonal relationships?

Boss Appreciation

Most employees feel like their bosses already have it good. They make more money. They have more power. They have nicer things and a better office. But that doesn’t mean that they are any more happy or satisfied than you. In fact, sometimes all those extras can make bosses feel overwhelmed. With that in mind, showing your boss appreciation every once in a while can oil the gears of a smooth-running office.

Employee Appreciation

On the other end of the spectrum, what are some ways that you can appreciate employees at your workplace? If you’re the manager in charge, giving employees bonuses is one of the things that you can do that will create a favorable environment for people who work hard or go above and beyond their regular duties. Another way you can appreciate employees is to make sure that you listen to them when they are trying to schedule vacations or time off. Remember that they are people as well as workers, and you will showcase your appreciation through your actions.

Workplace Health

When was the last time you stepped back and looked at your workplace health? These days, more people are noticing that sexual harassment at work may be a problem. If you see any indications that there are problems because of company policies, you need to appreciate the fact that they need to get fixed immediately and in confidence actions, rather than just letting things simmer below the surface.

Navigating Relationships

There are instances where bosses and employees can potentially appreciate each other too much. In other words, there may be relationships going on they go beyond typical professional interactions. If this is the case, everyone in the workplace needs to understand why specific barriers are in place concerning relationships between people at different tiers of power. Professional appreciation is one thing, but when it moves into the personal realm, if there are not clear delineations, it can appear that there is favoritism, which leads to toxic environments.
